Tragic Accident on I-75: Man Fatally Struck by Loose Tire in Detroit
A pickup truck driver in Detroit lost his life when an errant tire collided with his vehicle on I-75. The unfortunate incident took place at approximately 4 p.m. near Davison Freeway, causing the closure of northbound I-75 for several hours.
According to Michigan State Police, the accident unfolded as a 63-year-old man was driving his pickup truck northbound on I-75. At the same time, a vehicle traveling in the opposite direction suffered the misfortune of losing one of its tires. Tragically, this tire crossed the median, striking the pickup truck’s windshield.
Responding to the distressing scene, state troopers discovered the incapacitated truck against the wall, with the driver rendered unconscious. Despite their efforts to remove the trapped driver by breaking a window, the truck’s roof had caved in, making access impossible.
Failed in their mission, the troopers resorted to chaining the truck and carefully moving it away from the wall. This eventually enabled them to reach the unconscious driver, freeing him from the vehicle.
Without delay, troopers initiated essential medical aid for the victim, working in tandem with Detroit firefighters to transport him to the hospital. Tragically, despite their efforts, the 63-year-old man from Clarkston succumbed to his injuries, as reported by Michigan State Police on Friday evening.
