The Hankook Dynapro MT2 is a mud-terrain tire that delivers outstanding off-road traction with decent on-road performance. It comes with a wide range of size options making it feasible for most truck, SUV, and CUV owners.

Thanks to the Korean manufacturer’s attention to detail, they have made sure not to overlook the LT-metric sizes for the Hankook Dynapro MT2 tire.

Spanning from 15 inches to 22 inches, the Dynapro MT2 is a perfect fit for vehicles of various sizes, leaving no one behind. Moreover, off-road enthusiasts can take delight in the availability of sizes such as 31-inch, 32-inch, 33-inch, 35-inch, and 37-inch, presenting an exceptional range of options for conquering demanding off-road expeditions.

Hankook has certainly focused on improving the tread life of the Dynapro MT2, and it is expected to provide at least 40,000 miles of usage before needing replacement.

The tire does not come with a tread life warranty, which could be seen as a downside for many consumers. Nevertheless, the quality of the tread life has not been compromised despite the absence of a warranty.

There was a noticeable improvement in fuel efficiency after driving a 20″ Ram 1500 with the Hankook Dynapro MT2 tires for 300 miles straight up. It gave a good 17.8 mpg which is still higher considering the weight of the truck.

Maintenance Indicators

The Hankook Dynapro MT2 tire offers several useful indicators that can assist you in maintaining the tire‘s performance and knowing when it’s time for a replacement. First, there are Tread Wear Indicators (TWIs), which are small raised rubber bars located in the tire grooves. These TWIs are spaced every 2/32 of an inch, and when the tire tread wears down to the level of these bars, it indicates that it’s time to replace the tire.

When it comes to sidewall wear, the Hankook Dynapro MT2 does not have specific Sidewall Wear Indicators. Instead, you’ll need to visually inspect the sidewall for any signs of wear and tear. If the sidewall has worn down to the level of the main surface, it’s a clear indication that the tire has reached the end of its lifespan and should be replaced.

Certain versions of the Dynapro MT2 tire are designed with Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) sensors. These sensors continuously monitor the air pressure within the tires and promptly send a signal to the vehicle’s dashboard if there is a decrease in tire pressure below the recommended level. This feature helps you stay informed about the tire pressure status, allowing you to take timely action to maintain the correct tire inflation levels for safe driving.

During rigorous off-road testing, the Hankook Dynapro MT2 tire proved to be nothing short of exceptional. Its traction performance surpassed my expectations, particularly when tackling muddy terrains and off-road adventures.

The Hankook Dynapro MT2 comes with Terrain Strike pattern which is made from an advanced off-road tread compound that is designed to provide better traction and durability in harsh conditions. This compound is made with a high percentage of silica, which makes it more resistant to heat and wear.

The tread pattern is designed with a high void ratio, which means that there is a lot of open space between the tread blocks. This helps to improve traction in mud and sand, as it allows the tire to self-clean and shed mud and debris.

Even on loose gravel and wet asphalt, the tire’s traction capabilities were impressive, providing a sense of safety and confidence. Moreover, when encountering rough gravel roads, the tire effectively absorbs ruts, holes, and corrugations, providing a smooth and comfortable ride. 

The tread blocks have built-in stone ejectors, which effectively prevent the accumulation of rocks and debris within the tread pattern. This can help to improve traction and prevent damage to the tire.

By reducing the tire pressure to 28psi, they effortlessly handle corrugations, and when further aired down to 18-22psi, they navigate deep muddy clay ruts with ease. 

The Hankook Dynapro MT2’s performance on shale and rocks has been perfect thus far. Despite encountering gnarly tracks and gravel roads, the tire remains chip-free, maintaining its durability. 

The grooves in the tread are wide and deep, which helps to improve water drainage and prevent hydroplaning.

Dynapro MT2 comes with Hankook’s split mold technology which enhances traction while safeguarding against punctures, thanks to its Wraparound Tread and Sidewall Protection Shields.

However, in a mere 50 miles of driving on dirt roads, the sidewalls of the tires have developed deep cuts, and there are noticeable chips in the tread. Nevertheless, these tires are excellent for tackling bog holes, as their unique tread design enables crawling through muddy pits, and so far, I haven’t encountered any incidents of getting stuck.

While testing the Hankook Dynapro MT2 on snowy terrains, the tire truly stood out. It performed exceptionally well, eliminating the need for chains. It was a sight to watch as other vehicles struggled with their chains while the Hankook Dynapro MT2 effortlessly maintained its grip on the challenging surfaces. 

The tire made me feel their worth as they effortlessly tackled heavy snow while driving through uphill tracks. The Hankook Dynapro MT2 impressed me with its consistent reliability in winter conditions, making it an ideal choice for those seeking confidence and safety while driving through snow-covered terrains.

While the Hankook Dynapro MT2 may lack the 3-peak snowflake symbol, indicating that it isn’t specifically designed for extreme winter conditions, its features still provide notable benefits. The tread blocks and wide tread grooves play a crucial role by creating extra biting edges and effectively channeling water, snow, and slush.

Furthermore, the tire’s thick sidewalls offer protection against snow and ice damage, ensuring the longevity of its components and preserving its off-road capabilities. Although it may not excel in extreme winter conditions, the Dynapro MT2 still offers sufficient performance and durability in varied terrains.

Hankook Dynapro MT2 Review : Wet Performance

Despite encountering frequent wet weather conditions over the past year, this tire consistently maintains a strong grip, displaying no signs of compromised traction.

Whether tackling off-road adventures or encountering wet surfaces, the Hankook Dynapro MT2 provides average handling capabilities. It excels on dry gravel or dirt, gripping the road like adhesive and instilling a high level of confidence.

However, under aggressive driving or during heavy braking, the Hankook Dynapro MT2’s braking distances tend to be longer. Additionally, when pushing the limits in terms of aggressive driving, this tire may experience some loss of traction.

The Hankook Dynapro MT2 exhibits certain limitations when it comes to wet terrains, particularly on highways, necessitating responsible driving within these confines while prioritising caution, safety, and security.

For individuals who frequent the track or engage in aggressive driving on wet surfaces, it may be advisable to consider a tire that is specifically designed for enhanced performance in such conditions.

While the Hankook Dynapro MT2 offers commendable performance, it may not fully meet the expectations of those seeking exceptional wet terrain capabilities in extreme driving scenarios.

Hankook Dynapro MT2 Review : Dry Performance

One significant shortcoming of most mud terrain tires is their disappointing performance on dry terrain. Typically, these tires don’t meet the owners’ expectations because they fail to provide sufficient traction.

Hankook, however, has strived to enhance the dry performance of the Hankook Dynapro MT2 compared to its predecessors. They have worked to maximize dry traction as much as possible for a mud terrain tire.

Many of us tend to alternate between summer tires and mud-terrain tires during off-roading. Although it sounds more practical, but it is not as convenient as it may initially seem to be. 

The Dynapro MT2 stands out among most of its competitors with its innovative interlinked tread-to-shoulder design, delivering exceptional handling and traction in dry pavements. Its superior stability at high speeds on highways has truly surprised me, exceeding my initial expectations.

While the tire offers a comfortable ride, it may not be as smooth and quiet as some all-terrain alternatives. Nonetheless, the Dynapro MT2’s overall performance outweighs this slight drawback.

I was pleasantly surprised by the road noise of the Hankook Dynapro MT2 tire, as it closely resembled that of an all-terrain tire rather than a typical mud tire. Although mud tires often involve trade-offs, I did notice slight vibrations until the tire cooled down.

Furthermore, there is a slight noise emanating from the tire. The tire noise becomes more noticeable only when the windows are down. As expected, the tires emit a subtle hum, and they might gradually become slightly louder as they age over time.

Comfort has been prioritized by Hankook this time. The tire’s advanced technology and tread pattern help to absorb road imperfections. Whether cruising on the highway or driving through rough terrains, the Hankook Dynapro MT2 tire delivers a reassuring level of ride comfort, allowing for a confident and relaxed journey.

Hankook Dynapro MT2 Review : Tread Wear And Durability

The wear performance of the Hankook Dynapro MT2 tires has been impressive. Even after covering a considerable distance, I was pleasantly surprised to discover a substantial amount of tread remaining.

Surprisingly, there is still approximately 10mm of tread left on the tires, surpassing my expectations. With such outstanding durability, it is predictable that the Hankook Dynapro MT2 could potentially last an extended mileage, reaching close to 90 or even 100,000 kilometers.

Since there are not as many options when it comes to mud terrain tires, tires of reputed brands like Hankook cannot be ignored by resellers, moreover, Hankook has positive reviews, and Dynapro’s following makes users look for its shelf.

Beyond that, the Dynamo MT2’s success has also created a widespread need for it. Keeping everything in mind, the Dynapro MT2’s availability does not need to be speaking off as you would find it in most of the places.

The pricing of the Hankook Dynapro MT2 can vary depending on the tire size and the retailer. Typically, the Hankook Dynapro MT2 tire is priced in the mid-range category for off-road tires.
