Newbustar (Cambodia) Tire Co., Ltd. begins construction on $138M car tire factory in northeast Cambodia
Construction has begun on a cutting-edge car tire factory in Kratie province, northeast Cambodia, by Newbustar (Cambodia) Tire Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of China’s Qingdao Doublestar Group.
The factory, which is estimated to cost $138 million, is being built on a 40-hectare parcel in Snuol district’s UBN Special Economic Zone, according to a recent news release from the Kratie provincial administration.
The factory will have the capability to produce 8.5 million high-performance radial tires annually according to projections.
Kratie provincial governor VA Thorn attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the plant and praised the project’s potential to strengthen trade relations between Cambodia and China.
He also highlighted the factory’s potential to contribute to Cambodia’s industrial and economic development, as well as creating more job opportunities for locals.
Chai Yongsen’s Expression
Doublestar Group President Chai Yongsen expressed that this mega project shall enhance China and Cambodia’s relations, particularly under the Belt and road initiative framework. The team has scheduled to accomplish the initial phase of this project by October 2023
This development follows the inauguration of a $300 million (Cambodia) plant, general Tire Technology, a subsidiary of Chinese tire manufacturer Jiangsu General Science Technology, in the Sihanoukville Special Economic Zone just two months ago.
